PURPOSE of Fire Safety Plan

  1. To ensure the safety of everyone in the park in case of fire.
  2. To set out procedures to be followed by staff, campers and visitors in case of a fire emergency.
  3. To minimize damage to park and private owner assets in case of fire.

B) PARK RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Specify what type, what size, where, and when fires are allowed in the park.
  2. The park staff follows all regulations issued by Municipality of Moonbeam and the Ministry of Natural Resources pertaining to open fires.

C) FIRE TYPES (possible in the park)

  1. Structural fires occur in buildings or trailers on site.
  2. Forest fires occur in grass, bush, and trees.
  3. Gasoline fires possible where gasoline is used: vehicles, boat motors, generators, chainsaws, etc.
  4. Gas under pressure; such as, propane, propane leaks etc, trailers, barbecues.

FIRE PREPAREDNESS BY FIRE TYPE

  1. STRUCTURAL FIRES:
    • All trailers must have the equivalent of a 2 lb. ABC fire extinguisher in an easily accessible location.
    • Occupants must know how to use the fire extinguisher.
    • Park staff may inspect all trailers to ensure this condition is met.
    • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are highly recommended for trailers.
  2. FOREST, BRUSH FIRES:
    • Office must be called immediately with location, type & size.
    • The Moonbeam Fire Department is 3 kms away and is available by calling 911.
    • Water and sand is effective against wood fires.
  3. GASOLINE
    • ABC extinguishers in trailers.
    • ABC extinguishers in park buildings and equipment can be used as required.
  4. GAS FIRES
    • ABC extinguishers in trailers.
    • ABC extinguishers in park buildings and equipment can be used as required.

E) PROCEDURES SHOULD A FIRE OCCUR:

  1. Properly identify type of fire.
  2. Notify people near you of the fire and its type and take immediate proper steps to extinguish it.
  3. If you are experiencing any difficulty putting it out send for help immediately. Park staff should be notified at this time. If the fire appears to have potential of spreading or causing structural damage call 911 and give details of fire type and location and any other information requested .
  4. Staff will conduct initial attack on any threatening fire until relieved by the fire department or the MNR fire crews.
  5. Where fire has potential to spread eg. Small bush fire in dry conditions, trailer on fire, car or other vehicle close to dry bush etc.  Evacuate area.
  6. Fire department will be met at park entrance and guided in.
